Class Descriptions

Gentle Hatha This practice involves asana (postures) done at a slow pace, often held for longer periods (this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s any easier than active hatha!). We do a fair bit of supine poses (lying down). This is a dosha balancing class, good for everyone.

Active hatha is a firey blend based on the ashtanga series. Beginning with kundalini warm-ups we move creatively through salutations, standing postures, and to the floor for seated poses, arm balances, inversions, and core work. Often we play music to inspire! This class is best for people with experience and overall good physical health.

Chair yoga is done sitting on the edge of a chair. Mostly it is for people who have a hard time getting down to the floor or sitting on the floor, but is great for anyone who likes a very meditative, slow safe stretch. We also use the chair for some standing and balancing poses.

Restorative involves sustained poses that are often supine (lying down), using props to assist in the opening process. Little to no muscles are used, purely gravity and the body’s own weight to slowly and gently lengthen and relax body and mind. This class is good for everyone who is ready to slow down and let go.

All classes utilize various forms of pranayama (breathing practices) depending on the intention and focus of the class. Short periods of meditation, visualization, and chanting can also be part of any class.
